Question: from Bruce
I would be keen to know whether you feel that the mussel-based omega 3 products that Moxxor (a NZ-based health food company) produce are more potent than your omega 3 product. Their claims certainly suggest that they have a very potent product that has given relief to a lot of people
Answer: from Warren
Moxxor is a great example of slick marketing and advertising with a good story and appealing to people's inherent desire to make money.
What the developers of Moxxor have done is take green lipped mussel oil, combined it with omega 3 fish oil and added some grapeseed oil (which is so cheap that it is used as cooking oil in New Zealand).
We considered using almost identical mussel oil some years ago and combining it with our Omega 3 but decided against it in favor of using a concentrated powder extract of the greenlipped mussel. The reason why we did this as opposed to using the mussel oil, which would have been easier to combine with the Omega 3 fish oil was simply because when the green lipped mussel is processed into oil some important fractions of the mussel itself are lost.
The mussel oil extract is only used in very small doses and as I indicated some of the anti-inflammatory fractions are lost in the processing.
Because of this we did considerable research figuring out how we could successfully suspend the green lipped mussel extract powder which still contained all the valuable lipids into our New Zealand Hoki Fish oil and then encapsulate it a soft gel. This was ultimately successful and if how we ended up with our GLM Omega 3 Plus.
I tried to find some specific information on the Moxxor product such as the amount of Omega 3, DHA and EPA per soft gel and how much mussel oil but had no success. If a reader has that info I would like to know the details.
The only info that I could find out other than the three ingredients in non specified quantities that a bottle costs around US$60 and there are only 60 soft gels in a bottle.
It appears that the soft gels are very small (I suspect as small as 350mgs) so the amount of Omega 3 content would be very low.
This does not seem to be very good value when you line it up with our GLM Omega 3 Plus which has over 1,000mgs of Omega 3 and green lipped mussel extract per soft gel and only costs US$28.95 for 90 soft gels.
But, then as with all Multi-level marketing products they have to overprice them to pay all the levels of commissions. The claim that it costs less to market a product in this way compared to traditional outlets is a myth.
Bottom line...it is extremely unlikely to be more effective than our GLM Omega and is much more likely to less effective...
